This haiku from a seventeenth-century Japanese poet beautifully encapsulates both the loss and hope of the experience of a mom learning of her child's diagnosis.

The burned barn represents a powerful visual for your dreams going up in flames in that moment.
But it also speaks to the aftermath of the devastation, as you pick up the pieces of your life and move forward.

The moon represents the light and awe of your new reality. Focusing on the moon is what gives you the strength to move forward and create a new narrative.

My barn having burned down,
I can see the moon.
